The box turned out great Nancy!
Nancy what is this made out of?
I have been asked that a lot. I just found a square box in the size I needed and cut all but one flap off. I then cut a square off of a larger box that makes the larger flat piece on top. I covered the the sides of the box, and the flat piece of cardboard with cardstock. I folded the cardstock around the corners of the box and the edge of the flat piece and the slit so the cardboard did not show. I then attached the flat piece of cardboard to the flap I didn't cut off so it can be opened easily. For the slit for the cards I cut it a little bit to the front so when you attach the tassel that will be in the center. Just figure out where you will put it on the box to see if you will need to trim the flap of the box in case if covers the slit. I used a button with a circular piece of cardstock over that for the tassel to hang off of. I hope that made sense!
This is the best graduation box I've seen! I'm not a crafty person, but really want a box like this, so I'm going to try! :) What did you use to attach the card stock, large top piece and button? just hot glue or something else? Thanks for the great idea (and any other words of wisdom regarding tips for creating this are welcome!)
The directions for the box are in the comments above! I used my 3m glue gun!
What are the dimensions of the box?
I just found a square box. It was probably about 12 x 12" I just found a square box.
I would love to have your cut files for the graduation hat for cards?
This isn't a cut file. I just attached paper to a box. Directions are above.
I too, love your card box! Are the seams in the corners of the box? Thank you for sharing!
The card stock is wrapped around each corner a little bit and then the next piece of card stock is placed on that and wrapped around the next corner and so on.
I made a similar box for my twin sons' open house. I used a fabric storage box you can buy at stores like Target or Wal--Mart for the bottom. Super simple and they will use the storage box when they moved their dorm rooms this fall
I am going to try my best to make this for my granddaughter's party thanks for this idea!
